making a cittern bridge

Picture
Picture
The cittern is a large-bodied, flat-backed, pear-shaped instrument with 10 paired strings, or five courses. It was popular in the 16th to 18th centuries.
Picture
I made this bridge replacing one that was fractured.
Picture
The holes on the bridge had to be precisely located and sized to accept the barrel ends of steel strings.
Picture
Two pearl dots hide two bolts that were used on the original bridge.
Picture
The bridge was shaped to provide optimum break angle of the strings over a saddle of optimum height.
Picture
The design of the bridge followed the original contours.
