retrofitting a Gurian neck

Picture
Picture
This Gurian was shipped from Switzerland. The fractured soundboard required a shim and a full cleat to support the rosette fragment.
Picture
In a failed attempt to remove the neck a luthier in Switzerland severed the fingerboard at the body fret. A new fingerboard will restore the integrity to the neck/body joint.
Picture
The two tapered pin holes near the bottom of the tenon have been plugged.
Picture
The sides of the tenon have been laminated with two thin plates of carbon fiber to provide support for the barrel bolt connection.
Picture
Barrel bolt design has many advantages over the tapered pin design. Most guitars today use this design over the dovetail joint.
Picture
The soundboard has been repaired and the neck with new fingerboard installed.

"This is marvelous !! You've done such a great job and I am indeed very grateful for the skillful workmanship you put into repairing my precious Gurian. The neck is magnificent. I cannot see any signs of the initial damage of the soundboard. I am so happy that you accepted to take care of my instrument. You surely are a very gifted man. There was nobody and no place else to accomplish this superior work than you." Rolf Hug, Switzerland
